Creation of Eve, reproduced from a plaster cast of an 11th-century ivory obtained by Mercer from London’s Victoria and Albert Museum in 1900. Mercer looked to the designs on things he collected for his museum or displayed in his house, Fonthill, as a source for some of his tiles.
