TileWorks offers a unique opportunity to create using Raku, the Japanese firing technique that originated in the 1500's. Local artist Eric Boynton, from Clay Rat Studio will provide a hand thrown ceramic vessel which you will decorate with special Raku glazes. Your pot will be put into a special gas fired Raku kiln and will reach a very high temperature rapidly. When your pot is red hot and glowing, it will be pulled from the kiln and submerged in a lidded can full of organic material to smolder. This reduced atmosphere causes the glazes to have a traditional iridescent, copper or crackled finish.
