Bi was raised in the countryside near Xian, China, Bi earned his master’s degrees at Qinghua University in Beijing, China. He is an adjunct professor at Montgomery College and a resident artist at VisArts center in Rockville. Bi’s work reflects the traditional Chinese influences, yet is infused with a contemporary aesthetic. Through his life and work, Bi has formed a bridge between the introspective sensibilities of Chinese culture and the dynamism of modern Western culture. Xiaosheng’s ceramic, sculpture and calligraphy works have been exhibited in solo and group shows in Asia and the USA.

Join us for this unique opportunity to study with the visiting artist, Xiaosheng Bi. Students will learn brush paint cobalt blue wash as traditional white blue ware, (The cobalt blue wash color made as natural traditional blue. It is good for reduction fire and oxidation fire. Xiaosheng Bi will share the recipe with students). Students will learn how to use traditional skill to paint landscape, flowers and fruits and or create abstract strokes.

Students will learn how to use Amaco underglaze to decorate their ceramic work. They will learn mixed painting techniques as water color, sumi ink and ceramics painting techniques to decorative pots. You will learn how to painting natural subjects such as trees, flowers, figures, butterflies and birds. Bi will do demonstration and lecture for each techniques and subjects.  Also students will creative calligraph in to their pottery as art work.

Cancellation Policy

If you register for one of our classes or workshops and are unable to attend for any reason, there are no refunds or credits available unless we are able to fill your spot with someone on the waitlist. Please let us know as soon as possible if you need to miss your class. If we are able to fill your spot there is a $10.00 fee to cover our time and our processing fees. You are welcome to send someone in your place if you cannot make it, just let us know prior to the class so we can update our rosters. Please note a minimum of 4 people is required for most classes to run. If you have enrolled in a class or workshop that does not meet the minimum requirement to run, you will be issued a full refund. If you have any questions about our cancellation policy, we are happy to answer them prior to signing up to clarify.
